WBSO for the manufacturing industry

The manufacturing industry is a broad concept. The sector can best be described as the part of the industry that processes materials into products. This means electronics, machine building, plastic processing, metal production and so on. But when does an innovation project qualify for WBSO? The answer to this question is also broad. If something is developed and technology is involved, it can be worthy of WBSO!

WBSO is used in many sectors, because technology and innovation can be found everywhere. From goldsmiths to manure processing companies, and from breweries to medical developers.

Common mistakes

You must submit your WBSO application to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency. It is very important that you are concrete and technical. The biggest mistake when applying for the WBSO for the manufacturing industry is that problems are described functionally. This also applies to software projects.

For example, if you describe in your WBSO application that you want to develop a precision instrument, but that the available machines are unable to make it sufficiently accurate, then this is a functional problem. You have to consider the technical limitations. What does it take to achieve such accuracy? If you can indicate this, you are beyond the functional aspect. In this case, the project will be worthy of WBSO.

Innovation in the manufacturing industry

In response to the changing needs of the end user, a lot of product development is done within the manufacturing industry. Sustainability, circularity and digitization play an important role in this. It is therefore not surprising that technological developments follow each other in rapid succession. Ultimately it’s all about producing more efficiently, more accurately, and with higher quality: it’s all about innovation.
